Using your medical aid on PrimeMeds
How medical aid works when you buy through PrimeMeds, what we can tell you about prices, and where your scheme fits in.
How it works
Your partner pharmacy remains the seller of record — it dispenses the medicine and bills it. You settle the bill with the pharmacy: either the cash price, or your scheme copay with the scheme settling the rest directly with the pharmacy.
What we show you
The cash price we charge, and a side-by-side comparison with the copay your scheme quotes you. Enter your copay on any medicine page and we will tell you plainly which is cheaper.
Chronic medicines
Chronic prescriptions are the ones schemes most often cover, and they carry a fixed monthly copay. Set up auto-refill for these and we prepare each repeat — a pharmacist still reviews every one before it is dispensed.
Over-the-counter items
Most schemes only pay for prescribed medicines, so over-the-counter items are usually a cash purchase. If you are unsure, ask your scheme first.
What we do not do
We do not verify your benefit, submit your claim, or guarantee that a scheme will pay. Benefits, formularies and copays change — confirm your exact benefit with your scheme before you buy.
Copay figures are indicative. Benefits, formularies and copays change — always confirm your exact benefit with your scheme before you buy.
Common questions
- Can I use my medical aid on PrimeMeds?
- Yes — you buy from a licensed partner pharmacy and settle with that pharmacy, which is the seller of record. Your scheme settles its share with the pharmacy directly, and your copay is what you pay on delivery.
- Will you tell me what my scheme covers?
- No. We can compare our cash price with the copay you tell us, but only your scheme can confirm what it covers. We never promise that a claim will be paid.
- Is the cash price always lower than my copay?
- Sometimes, and sometimes not. That is exactly why the comparison is on every medicine page — for a chronic medicine at a P50 copay, a P45 cash price is cheaper, while a P120 medicine is not.
- Can I still pay by Orange Money or MyZaka?
- Yes. Mobile money and cash on delivery work exactly as they do without a scheme — choose the option that matches how you are settling with the pharmacy.
